Royal Commission under fire for excluding Palestinian perspectives

The Royal Commission into Antisemitism has sparked debate over freedom of expression, rights to protest and the place of Palestinian perspectives in public discourse, writes Lyn Bender.
There is a new concern for Palestine and the Palestinian people McCarthyism?
It is named after the Republican Senator who led the hunt (literally) for suspected communist “infiltrators” and “sympathizers” in the film industry, educational institutions, government, and even the military. No stone was left unturned in the investigations to uncover this threat to America.
The definition of antisemitism as any criticism of Israel bears a sharp resemblance to the exploration of the communist threat.
Protesting genocide has become a crime in some parts of Australia. People in Australia can be arrested for peacefully protesting ethnic cleansing and war crimes.
Current status so far Royal Commission on Antisemitismaccused Palestinians cannot testify or plead their case.
Australian Palestine Advocacy Network (APAN), became the peak point of Palestine permission denied To present in committee.
PotIt was written by in 1953. Arthur Millerit reflected the communist purge in America at the time. Anyone can be blamed House’s Anti-American Activities Hundreds of people in the film industry lost their jobs or were boycotted by associations for being communist sympathizers. This list included Charlie ChaplinExiled from America.
Pot It is a play about the hysteria that occurred in a community in Salem, America, in 1693, due to accusations of witchcraft. Salem witch trials It was an allegorical device used by Miller.
Shootings in Bondi It was a terrible trauma for the Jewish community, especially for those directly affected. But the persistent call for a royal commission was a big mistake. Not only was the shock and horror not handled, but the motivations of the alleged attackers were not explored. In fact, the Commission may have been hindered by the fact that this incident is at the investigation stage.
Bondi is an iconic Aussie meeting place for many Australians.
Bondi belongs to all Australians.
Surfers, swimmers, lifeguards, runners, sunbathers, tourists attracted by its beauty and those who come to drink coffee by its waters can all enjoy Bondi. But Bondi’s status as a safe place for everyone has been attacked. This is a deep wound.
Despite its obviously narrow agenda, I decided to present a presentation. Royal Commission on Antisemitism.
I struggled with the decision to submit to this Royal Commission, but felt compelled to add my voice as a Jew who is horrified by the oppression and cannot even acknowledge the suffering of Palestinians.
In fact, it seemed that protests against the genocide of Palestinians were somehow unfairly implicated in this terrible act. Despite the known facts so far that no Palestinians were involved in the massacre, measures against protesters have been intensified, especially in NSW.
Protesters were also criminalized England.
Police acted more harshly against protesters. The media made reference to the protests but were less interested in highlighting what the protests were about. The bombings in Gaza, the displacements, and the settler violence we can see every day on our iPhones.
The statements were officially condemned. saying “Free Palestine” It may get you banned or discontinued. It was more acceptable to utter almost any curse other than the intifada. intifada In Arabic, it means to shake off or resist. What person wouldn’t want to liberate themselves from a brutal apartheid occupation? When a person expresses this idea, he is accused by the Israeli narrative machine of being a supporter of this idea. Hamas or antisemitic, or both. If you are Jewish, you are accused of being a self-hating Jew or a traitor.
Some participants in the commission claimed that the display of the Palestinian flag traumatized them.
Intergenerational trauma is on display.
I can confirm that intergenerational trauma is a psychological phenomenon, both personally and in my previous practice as a psychologist. Growing up in a traumatized community or family transmits trauma. Fears, beliefs, and reactions can be conveyed verbally as well as nonverbally and behaviorally.
For some, trauma can lead them to empathize with the pain of others. Others may try to act like an aggressor to avoid victimization. Bruno BettelheimThose imprisoned in Nazi concentration camps and other analysts called it this: identification with the attacker. It is the defense mechanism of those who are in a traumatic and extremely weak situation.
Many people have stated that Zionism is similar to Nazism, imprisoning, killing and torturing Palestinians.
Many Holocaust survivors and their children around the world are horrified by Israel and condemn it for its treatment of Palestinians. Many Jews with family connections to the Holocaust marched through the streets carrying Palestinian flags and banners.
I found that the boundaries set for submission almost constrained me as a writer to describe incidents of antisemitism. The saving grace was the issue of social cohesion and how it could be affected.
First of all, I said that I was subjected to much more harassment and “anti-Semitism” from Zionists and pro-Israel Jews.
My view is that the Royal Commission undermines social cohesion.
Claiming that criticism of Israel is antisemitic, as suggested by the envoy, Jillian SegalIt’s actually crazy.
Not allowing the “accused” Palestinians By having a say in the commission, he encouraged extreme social division.
I couldn’t say that everything I knew was important. Even joining this Commission makes me feel like I’m part of a corrupt process.
My experience growing up in a community of Holocaust survivors was this. brainwashedAs in the United States, Israel is part of Jewish identity, with the belief that it is a safe place for the Jewish people. He said Israel could do no wrong. The Jewish people had the right to use the land from the river to the sea.
Ah, the irony that Palestinian supporters are criminalized for using this phrase. The absurdity of the claim that Jews of European descent somehow have the right to return while indigenous people are being deported 1948 Nakba can’t.
I am a supporter of this Jewish Council of AustraliaAn organization that advocates for human rights for all and opposes the mistreatment of all abused groups, including Australia’s indigenous people.
The absurdity of claiming that Jews are somehow a homogeneous group.
But since I have absorbed my Jewish education, killing is forbidden. Stealing is prohibited. But Israel proudly proclaims its right to do both.
Claiming these atrocities on behalf of the entire Jewish people may account for a perceived increase in antisemitism.
Finally, we are all diminished when a tragedy like the Bondi attacks is weaponized for political purposes.
