New rules for Unified Payment Interface (UPI) and Liquid Petroleum Gas (LPG) will come into force from Monday, June 1, 2026.
These changes are expected to have profound impacts on the way your finances and household expenses are managed.
Here’s what’s changed:
UPI
- Biometric and two-factor prompts for high-value transactions
In a bid to protect against financial scams, apps like Google Pay, PhonePe and Paytm will stop relying solely on four- or six-digit pins for high-value transactions. Apps will now require biometric authentication (FaceID/Fingerprint) or third-party two-factor authentication or device-based authentication.

- Name Verification Before Transaction
To stop misdirected payments, UPI apps must necessarily capture the actual verified name of the person receiving the money through a secure database. Apps will display contacts’ full official name before payment.
Commercial LPG and 5 kg free trade LPG prices have been increased
UPI cardless transactions will now be counted by banks as part of your monthly free withdrawals and exceeding this limit will attract fees, just like card transactions.
Mandatory LPG Rules and Guidelines
Authorities are now planning more efficient and faster operations from Liquid Petroleum Gas (LPG) to Piped Natural Gas (PNG).
Why is India pressing the gas pipeline now? | Announced
- PNG Migration Deadline: If you have recently purchased a PNG connection, you will now have 30 days to terminate your LPG connection.
- Restrictions on new bookings: People with active PNG connections are now prohibited from purchasing LPG connections.
- Reload Lock Extension: Oil Marketing Companies or OMCs have now revised the mandatory gap between orders for gas cylinders. Now it is 25 days in urban areas and 45 days in rural areas.
- One Home One Connection: Stricter enforcement is being implemented to ensure single households do not have more than one standard gas connection.
Why is the date of the changes June 1?
Changes to UPI and restrictions and new rules on cooking gas will come into effect from 1 June 2026. So why this date?
May 31st is generally the exact date by which all technical UPI application frameworks must switch to enhanced security measures. Sometimes even school fees, summer holiday travel transactions, etc. Even the date is determined to prevent an increase in transactions.
Reflections of the crisis in West Asia on the Indian economy
With the increase in cooking gas prices due to the crisis in West Asia, restrictions were imposed on LPG. Gasoline, diesel and CNG fuel prices also increased.
