Girl, 13, dies after being rescued from River Wharfe in Yorkshire

A 13-year-old girl, who was reported lost in a river in North Yorkshire, died in the hospital where she was taken.
The teenager was reported missing at the River Wharfe near Burnsall in the Yorkshire Valleys at 6.30pm on Sunday.
Shortly after, he was rescued from the water and taken to hospital by air ambulance. North Yorkshire Police later confirmed his death despite efforts from members of the public at the scene.
In a statement, the official said: “Our thoughts are with his family at this very sad time and we ask the public and media to respect the family’s privacy and allow them to grieve peacefully.”

Skipton and Ripon MP Julian Smith thanks emergency services and residents who were at the scene to help.
Writing on social media, he said: “All my thoughts, prayers and wishes this morning are with the family of the young girl who died in Burnsall yesterday.
“I was heartbroken and saddened to hear this terrible and devastating news.”
