Former MSNBC host Joy Reid says she is no longer a New York Giants fan because Jaxson Dart introduced Trump

Former MSNBC host Joy Reid says she will no longer support the New York Giants after quarterback Jaxson Dart introduced President Trump on stage.

Reid first called Dart a “idiot” for using the word “delighted” to describe meeting Trump.

“Nice to meet you, what does that mean?” started. “First of all, he’s an idiot. Okay, but what do you mean ‘nice to meet the president’?” For example, is English your native language? What do you say?”

He later explained why he should stop rooting for the Giants

DONALD TRUMP SHOUTED JAXSON DART WHEN GIANTS QB’S APPEARANCE AT THE EVENT WAS MEETED WITH CONFLICT

“You know, as a Giants fan, I was really disgusted—like now—because the truth is Donald Trump is not a normal president,” Reid told host Jack Cocchiarella. “Donald Trump is not an American president. Donald Trump is a wannabe king. And we are on the 250th anniversary of our divorce from the king of England. And Donald Trump is trying to be a king.”

Apparently all the players committing violent crimes weren’t enough to lure Reid away from the Giants. An actor was needed to greet Trump on stage.

Later in the conversation, Reid suggested Dart take advantage of, you guessed it, White privilege.

“Sports has always been political and it’s always been used as Americana, right? They love to have athletes represent America on the field or the field, and that’s what you’re supposed to do. If you’re waving the flag, that’s fine. If you’re challenging the flag or challenging the status quo in the country, that’s a problem. And that’s the black artist, the black athlete and the white athletes,” he said.

“It’s always been that way. When Muhammad Ali said he wasn’t going to go to Vietnam, no one asked: ‘Maybe we should let him question a little more why we’re fighting in Vietnam.’ Instead they call him a patriot and throw him in jail. And, you know, this has actually been the history of Black athletes from the beginning. And the only way to be an acceptable Black athlete is to wave the flag.”

Wait, what?

Muhammad Ali was undoubtedly bigger than sports, but comparing his protest against the Vietnam War to Dart’s mere promotion of a sitting president is quite a leap.

And if society were indeed as hostile to Black athletes as Reid suggests, one would think there would be much more scrutiny if athletes committed serious crimes such as domestic violence, assault, and reckless driving.

We also have to ask: When did Joy Reid become a Giants fan?

First of all, we’ve never heard him talk about the team before. More importantly, leaving a franchise just because an actor greeted a president on stage seems like an extremely weak reason to leave.

If being a sports fan requires every player on your favorite team to share your political views, there won’t be many teams left to support.

As OutKick founder Clay Travis puts it, “There’s a zero percent chance of answering basic questions about the Giants fandom.”

Honest question: Can he name the player who made the Helmet Catch against the Patriots in Super Bowl 2007? Suspicious.

Still, even though it was embarrassing, it was probably wise for Reid to jump into the Darts debate. He has struggled to stay relevant since MSNBC fired him in 2025.

Extreme racial idolatry can be too competitive an area to cross on the internet. Reid may need to mix things up a bit more, like he did by announcing his departure from the Giants fandom.
