LIZ PEEK: Democrats are stuck with the radical left they refused to confront

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

Democrats have a tiger on their tail.

While Democratic Socialists bring money and energy to their party, they also contribute a cadre of anti-American, anti-capitalist, and often anti-Semitic candidates who disdain our country’s traditions and values. These rivals may ride today’s wave of anti-Trump sentiment, concerns about artificial intelligence and anger over high prices and win in Democratic-majority districts like Manhattan, but they will become an embarrassment in the long run. AOC and her Democratic Socialist colleagues won’t be breaching the Oval Office anytime soon.

Establishment Democrats like Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer know this, but they are deathly afraid of taking on the likes of New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani for fear of being singled out and unseated by Leftist candidates. As a result, they welcomed beginners, leaving the door open and unguarded. Shame on them.

Democrats believe they have an excellent chance to take back control of Congress in the fall midterm elections. The war in Iran is unpopular, gas prices are hovering around $4 per gallon, and the President’s approval ratings have plummeted. The stage is setting for a Democratic victory.

But as the far left invades their party, incumbent Democratic lawmakers are being pushed aside by increasingly outlandish and aggressive candidates like Darializa Avila Chevalier, who in recent years has denounced former President Joe Biden as a “rapist” and “war criminal” and declared the United States a “fucking disgrace” on social media. Chevalier, who also wrote “fuck Kamala Harris” and attacked leftists Bernie Sanders and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortes, has a chance to unseat longtime Democratic stalwart Adriano Espaillat, who represents New York’s 13th Congressional district.

Chevalier has a deplorable history of racist rhetoric; He favors closing all prisons, legalizing all drugs, and ending U.S. military support for Israel.

Without Zohran Mamdani’s approval, no one would take this person seriously. New York’s Democratic Socialist Mayor shook up the structure of his party by backing Chevalier, thereby undermining a five-term congressman who was chairman of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus. The seat is safe and rated “Solid D,” according to the Cook report, but a Chevalier win would further increase Mamdani’s power and reduce moderate Democrats’ tenuous grip on the party.

Chevalier isn’t the only far-left candidate making headlines. As the midterm season approaches, Democrats seeking control of the Senate are hoping for Graham Platner to beat Republican Susan Collins in Maine, Abdul El-Sayed to fill a vacant seat in Michigan, and James Talerico running against Texas AG Ken Paxton for Republican John Cornyn’s seat in the Lone Star state.

In frantic efforts to reinvent themselves, Platner and Talerico were forced to erase their embarrassing social media history. In this age of the internet, fortunately, erasing your history is difficult, and rightly so. It’s unconvincing to reject something you said five years ago just because it complicates your campaign.

Not only did Platner no longer have to pretend he didn’t believe crude posts about his appetite for masturbation that made light of sexual assault and other sexual topics on a now-deleted Reddit account, but he also tried to explain away the Nazi-themed tattoo on his chest. It was recently revealed that his wife had warned her campaign early about sexually explicit messages Platner had sent to several women, which she discovered on the oyster farmer’s phone. He also has an account on a private messaging app called Kik, which some claim is frequently used for sexual encounters.

Like Platner, Texas state representative James Talerico is feverishly reinventing himself. In 2022, Talerico ran what he later described as a “non-meat” campaign, telling an audience concerned with animal welfare that concerns about climate change had led him to reduce meat consumption. Now running to represent a major cattle ranching state and derided as “Tofu Talerico” by rival Ken Paxton, the candidate is a self-proclaimed red-blooded steak lover.

Talerico also struggles with early interpretations that “God is non-binary” and that there are six genders; This is the kind of stupid nonsense that anti-GOPs can exploit. Moreover, he embraced the falsehood that white people are fundamentally racist and that wouldn’t do well in the Lone Star state.

In Michigan, one of the frontrunners to fill Gary Peter’s seat in the Democratic Primary is progressive Abdul El-Sayed, a far-left advocate of Medicare for All who wants to abolish ICE and recently made headlines by telling a story that critics say has serious anger management issues. El-Sayed admitted to smashing a fifth of vodka onto the floor of a Detroit liquor store because the store owner had commented on the length of his beard, which had religious connotations among his Muslim brothers.

Establishment Democrats must be appalled at the turn their party has taken. Adding to their troubles, Jill Biden is appearing on airwaves to increase interest in her new book. The former First Lady is doing interviews about her White House years and reminding the country of the central lie of the Biden era, perpetuated by her and Democratic officials, that Joe Biden is fit to serve another four years.

Meanwhile, the Democratic National Committee is at war with itself, grappling with, among other things, an incomplete and sloppy “autopsy” on how they lost in 2024. They don’t need an autopsy, they just need to listen to the few sane voices in their party denouncing Democrats’ support for biological males competing in women’s sports, defunding the police, open borders and other unpopular issues.

In addition, at some point they will have to freeze out radical extremists who have hijacked their party and are actively working against US interests. Voters will not oppose this.
