Congress on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of maintaining “complete silence” on Israel’s military offensive against Lebanon, even as Israeli aggression undermined efforts to secure a US-Iran deal aimed at ending hostilities in West Asia.

Congress general secretary for communications Jairam Ramesh said negotiations between the US and Iran to stop the conflict have significant consequences for India.

He claimed that the talks were not completed largely due to Israel’s ongoing military operations in Lebanon, which included unprecedented attacks.

Mr Ramesh also cited reports that US President Donald Trump angrily used profanities against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, convincing him to cancel a planned attack on Beirut.

“Many other countries have condemned Israel’s attack in Lebanon. It is not surprising that the head of government who remains completely silent while Israel continues to destroy Lebanon and sabotage the US-Iran deal is Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” Ramesh said.

Dealing a harsh blow to the Prime Minister, he asked: “Is the so-called homeland more important to him than his real homeland?” he asked.
