BENGALUR: Before taking over as Chief Minister on Wednesday, DK Shivakumar resigned as the president of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC). The vacant seat will be filled by Congress leader BK Hariprasad. “I resigned as KPCC chairman this morning,” Shivakumar said.
All India Congress Committee General Secretary KC Venugopal stated that BK Hariprasad has become the president of KPCC with immediate effect. Venugopal appreciated the contributions of outgoing KPCC President DK Shivakumar.
Hariprasad previously served as a Rajya Sabha member in 1990, 2004, 2013 and 2014. He served as a Member of the Legislative Council from June 2022 and as Leader of the Opposition in the Council from January 2022 to 2023.
Sources said Hariprasad planned to take up the Ministerial post but ended up becoming the chairman of KPCC.
