The Special Court for POCSO Act cases in Coimbatore on Wednesday (June 3) granted the police a three-day custody order for two accused in the case related to the alleged sexual assault and murder of a 10-year-old girl near Sulur on the outskirts of the city recently.

Two persons, K. Karthi (35) and R. Mohan (31) from Pallapalayam, were produced in the court under tight police security.

Karthi was taken to court on an ambulance and stretcher for allegedly breaking his right arm and right leg while trying to escape from the police on May 22. He was later attacked by four inmates during remand in Coimbatore Central Jail.

The investigation team had approached the court a few days ago to take custody of the duo after the police failed to question them in detail before registering their arrest on May 23.

The investigation team, headed by Deputy Superintendent of Police Karikal Pari Shankar, will interrogate Karthi and Mohan in custody to get more details about the crime from conspiracy to execution. The police are expected to take the accused to private land adjacent to the Kannampalayam tank near Sulur and other crime-related locations to revisit the crime scene.
