Top Gun actor James Handy was stabbed to death outside his home.
The Jumanji actor was stabbed in Los Angeles on Wednesday, June 3.
His girlfriend’s son, 44-year-old Michael Gledhill, later allegedly told the cops that he was the person they were looking for. As the California Post reported.
Los Angeles Police said they received a disturbing call around 9:30 a.m. Wednesday from a man who said, “I am a human being, I just killed the man of sin.”
Officers then went to Handy’s address in the 19200 block of Erwin Street in Tarzana, where the 81-year-old man was found unconscious in his front yard with a stab wound to the chest.
He was pronounced dead after being taken to hospital.
The suspect then informed the police and said that he was the person they were looking for.
Gledhill lived at home with his mother, and investigators have yet to find a motive.
Gledhill is currently being held on $2 million bail.
The police statement stated: “On Wednesday, June 3, 2026, at approximately 9:30 a.m., West Valley area patrol officers responded to a radio call regarding unknown trouble in the 19200 block of Erwin Street.
“The person who called 911 said, ‘I am a human being, I just killed the man who sinned.'” When they arrived at the scene, officers found 81-year-old James Handy unconscious in the front yard of the home and stabbed in the chest.
“The victim was transported by Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The suspect flagged down nearby responders and told them he was the person they were looking for. The suspect lives with his mother, who is the victim’s girlfriend.”
“Detectives believe this is an isolated incident and there is no danger to the public at this time,” police said in a statement.
Handy last appeared in Top Gun: Maverick. He also appeared in various shows throughout his career, dating back to the 1970s.
These include The West Wing, NYPD Blue, Castle and The X-Files.
