CBSE lodges complaint with Delhi police over cyber attacks

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has lodged a formal complaint with the Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Operations (IFSO) Unit of Delhi Police regarding a series of coordinated and sophisticated cyber attacks on the Post Result Services Portal.

Delhi Police registered a case under Section 66 along with Sector 43 (F) of the IT Act and investigation was initiated.

“Since the portal caters to lakhs of students across the country to avail post-result services, any disruption in its functioning has the potential to adversely affect a large number of stakeholders, cause serious public inconvenience, affect public order and create dissatisfaction among students towards the Board,” CBSE said in a public statement.

CBSE stated that the portal, which was launched on June 2 to facilitate services such as verification and re-evaluation of answer scripts for candidates appearing for the XII Board Examination, was subjected to repeated and coordinated cyber attacks in the last three days.

As of 21:30 on June 3, the portal had accepted more than 56,000 applications for verification and reconsideration. CBSE did not release data for June 4 and 5.

“The attacks involved large amounts of malicious traffic originating from multiple IP addresses within and outside the country. The apparent objective of the attackers appeared to be to destabilize the platform, deny access to legitimate users and attempt to extract unauthorized information by elements contrary to national interest,” CBSE said.

Considering the nature, scale and coordinated character of these attacks, CBSE has contacted the IFSO Unit for a detailed investigation and appropriate legal action against those responsible. “It is emphasized that despite these malicious attempts, CBSE’s systems and databases remain secure and uncompromised. No data breach or unauthorized access has been detected,” CBSE said.

It was stated that the attacks were successfully mitigated through 24/7 continuous monitoring and response mechanisms with the support of cyber security teams of IIT Kanpur, IIT Madras, Digital India Corporation, Indian Cyber ​​Crime Coordination Center (I4C), CERT-In and other Central Government agencies.
