Domestic cooking gas LPG price increased by ₹29 per cylinder; This marks the second increase in three months as state-owned fuel retailers continue to grapple with rising global energy costs.

According to industry sources, the price of a 14.2 kg LPG cylinder in Delhi will increase from ₹913 to ₹942 from June 7.

This increase follows an increase of ₹60 per cylinder on March 7 after conflicts in West Asia disrupted global energy supplies and increased international fuel prices. Industry sources said the increase only partially compensated for losses in domestic LPG sales.

Sources said state-run oil marketing companies were estimated to have made losses of around £703 on every LPG cylinder sold before the latest overhaul.

The increase in LPG prices comes at a time of broader fuel price increases.

While petrol and diesel prices have been increased by a cumulative ₹7.50 per liter since mid-May, compressed natural gas (CNG) prices have increased by around ₹6 per kg.

According to industry sources, despite the recent increases, oil companies continued to sell gasoline and diesel below cost, incurring losses of around 11 Indian rupees per liter on gasoline and 33.6 Indian rupees per liter on diesel.

The government has so far avoided fully passing on higher international energy prices to consumers, absorbing some of the increase through state-owned fuel retailers as global crude oil and fuel markets remain volatile.
