US shooting: ‘Multiple people’ shot near community festival in Ohio

Multiple people were shot near a crowded street festival in Toledo, Ohio, and the search for suspects continues.
Toledo police officers responded to a report of a person shot near the Old West End Festival around 5:30 p.m. Saturday. When they arrived, they found multiple shooting victims, the police department said in a statement.
Police said “multiple victims” were transported to medical facilities but did not provide further details about injuries and how many people were shot. Authorities also did not provide any details about what triggered the attack.
Kevin Berry said he was listening to live music with friends at the neighborhood botanical garden when he heard a handful of gunshots.
“Everyone went on deck,” he said.
When he looked up again, he saw a gun thrown to the ground less than 15 meters away from him. Police teams, who were already in the region for the festival, immediately intervened at the scene.
Berry, who studied medicine and served in the U.S. Navy, said he drove around the area looking for potential victims who might need help.
He said he saw at least five people with gunshot wounds.
“Those who were shot were dispersed throughout the arboretum area,” he said.
The Old West End Festival is a two-day celebration in Toledo’s historic district that includes live music, food vendors, home tours, and shopping. Berry described it as “the start of Toledo’s summer festival season.”
