Ugandan Tourist with Ebola-Like Symptoms Tests Negative

Jaipur: A Ugandan woman who was admitted to a hospital in Jaipur after showing Ebola-like symptoms has tested negative for the virus, Rajasthan health officials said.
The woman, who came to Rajasthan as a tourist, was taken to the Rajasthan University of Health Sciences (RUHS) Hospital after developing Ebola-related symptoms and was placed in isolation as a precaution.
Their samples were sent to a private laboratory in Pune for testing. The report from the laboratory confirmed that he did not contract the Ebola virus.
Meanwhile, in a separate case, a Sudanese national was isolated at Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport on Thursday after airport health officials detected fever during routine thermal screening of international passengers.
The passenger was shifted to Gandhi Hospital in Secunderabad for observation. Samples were collected and sent to the Center for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB) for testing, hospital officials said.
Due to concerns about Ebola outbreaks in parts of Africa, the Central Government has advised citizens to avoid non-essential travel to the Democratic Republic of Congo, Uganda and South Sudan.
The World Health Organization (WHO) declared the Ebola outbreaks in Congo and Uganda a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC) on 17 May 2026, in accordance with the International Health Regulations (IHR) 2005.
The African Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) has classified the ongoing outbreak of the Bundibugyo strain of Ebola Virus Disease in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda as a Public Health Emergency of Continental Security (PHECS).
