Christian Eriksen collapses on the pitch for Denmark during friendly against Ukraine as match is abandoned – almost five years since playmaker’s cardiac arrest at Euro 2020

Christian Eriksen collapsed on the pitch during Denmark’s friendly against Ukraine on Sunday, almost five years after suffering a heart attack at Euro 2020.
Midway through the second half, Eriksen clutched his chest and fell to the ground. Medical staff rushed to the midfielder’s aid in the horrific scenes.
The players gathered around him and the match was later abandoned, with Eriksen taken to hospital along with his wife Sabrina.
Later, in the statement made by the Danish Football Federation, it was revealed that the midfielder was ‘conscious’ and said: ‘Christian Eriksen is conscious and in good condition under these conditions. ‘The match has been cancelled.’
The big screen in the stadium shared a similar message: ‘Match over. Under the circumstances, Christian Eriksen is in good shape.’
At the Nature Energy Park Stadium in Odense, the fans started applauding and chanting the name of Eriksen, who was receiving treatment.
Christian Eriksen collapsed on the field during Denmark’s friendly against Ukraine on Sunday.
About 10 minutes later, Denmark national team doctor Morten Boesen gave fans an update in another statement.
It said: ‘Christian is in a stable condition and walked off the field himself. From what I’ve seen, it boosts the pacemaker, which is what it’s supposed to do.
‘He was unconscious for a short time, but he regained consciousness very quickly and we quickly made contact with him.
‘He will now undergo further examination in hospital to find out what caused the incident.
We are in contact with him and the doctors at the hospital. But Christian is okay and he asked me to greet all the players and tell them he’s okay.’
Eriksen, who now plays for Wolfsburg after leaving Manchester United last year, received treatment for about 10 minutes before leaving the pitch to a standing ovation.
