Ahead of the INDIA bloc meeting on Monday, June 8, 2026, the BJP said the Opposition alliance is “a figment of imagination” and lacks conviction on the ground.

Top leaders of the 23 political parties of the opposition INDIA bloc will meet on Monday, June 8, 2026, to redraw their strategies against the BJP and resolve differences amid shifting power dynamics following the defeat of regional anchors TMC and DMK in the recent Assembly polls.

He added that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) also questioned the Congress’ intention to form an alliance with regional parties.

“After the DMK opposed the Congress, the JMM opposed the Congress and the complete collapse of the INDI alliance and the Left attacked the Congress, the Aam Aadmi Party has now targeted the Congress as well. The party has advised smaller regional parties that the only reason the Congress is coming together with them is to strengthen itself and not the nation and hence it will not join the INDI alliance,” he said.

“There is no Indian alliance. This is just a figment of one’s imagination. Cosmetic meetings are held, but real conviction is never seen on the ground,” he shared.

Asserting that the opposition alliance had no common goal, Mr Poonawalla said it had “no mission, no vision, only division”.

“INDI alliance never had a mission. It was always about confusion, greed and division. These divisions are now happening on a daily basis. Even when these parties came together, they did so out of convenience and not out of conviction,” he said.

In a video statement, he claimed that regional parties do not trust the Congress as it “really uses and throws them”.

“DMK said Congress was a backstabber and did not want to side with the party. JMM fought with Congress over the second Rajya Sabha seat in Jharkhand and said Congress did not even ask for it. RJD, Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena and other parties feel that Congress used them and then threw them away,” he said.

“INDI alliance only appears in newspapers, headlines and cosmetic actions and never exists in reality,” he added.

The BJP spokesperson also highlighted electoral contests among the INDIA bloc’s allies, questioning their unity in states such as West Bengal, Kerala, Punjab, Delhi, Haryana and Rajasthan.
