Barclays issues alert to customers with weddings this year

Barclays has published guidance for customers facing a busy wedding calendar in the coming months. As summer approaches, the bank shared a message for everyone with a wedding invitation. In its social media update, Barclays highlighted that the summer months are often the busiest period for social gatherings and celebrations.
However, the bank suggested that customers could implement strategies to reduce the financial burden on their accounts. On Facebook, a Barclays employee shared tips for navigating their busy schedule throughout the season.
She told viewers: “Is this what your calendar looks like? Weddings everywhere, at the same time, which is great for your social life, but a little less great for your bank account. “Yes, before you RSVP, we invite you to browse this list of great savings options.
“First of all, the clothes. You don’t need a new one every time. Remember, you can wear something again. No one is keeping track. Unless you show up in your wedding dress, maybe that is.”
“And then there’s the bachelorette party. You may love your friends, but you still might not love the cost of their trip. Just be honest and suggest something a little more budget-friendly that you can do with them another time. And finally, if that’s too much for you, maybe stop being so popular.”
In the caption, Barclays added: “Send this to someone whose calendar is already full of summer weddings. (They may thank you later).”
The Barclays website also includes money-saving challenges that may appeal to customers looking to save money before special events, reports Mirror. For example, the bank recommends: £5 challenge.
Barclays said: “Try putting £5 towards your savings every time you buy something that costs more than £20. “It may seem a bit of a stretch, but finding an extra fiver is a good way to get into the habit of sensible saving.
“For example, you might buy a slightly cheaper alternative, opt for a cheaper delivery option when buying online, or cut back on something else that day to complete your push for that purchase.”
Offering more advice, the bank said customers can create their own rules. Barclays explained: “Setting some ground rules will help you avoid unnecessary spending.
“For example, you could set a daily or weekly limit on what you spend on nights out or lunches. Perhaps taking cash instead of a card when going out could help you avoid impulse spending.
“Other rules to consider are using supermarket own-brand products rather than big brands, or setting spending limits on clothes and shoes. Keep track of the savings you make this way and you’ll start to see how valuable your rules are.”
