Cyclones ravaged several parts of Kerala’s Thrissur district on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, causing widespread property damage, uprooting of trees and disruption of traffic even as heavy rain continued to batter the region.

The worst-hit districts include Villian, Vilvattom, Cheroor and Kozhukkully. Strong winds caused trees to be uprooted at many places, including near Cheroor Village Office and Milma premises, leading to severe traffic congestion. Fire and Rescue Services personnel are working with local residents to clear downed trees and restore them to normal.

In Kozhukkully, the severe cyclone caused serious damage, with roofs of many houses blown off and blown onto roads. The removal of trees in the region caused panic among citizens. MLA K. Rajan visited the affected areas and assessed the situation. No casualties have been reported so far.

In another incident, a large teak tree was uprooted and fell near the Bhavan School building at Poochatty in Nadathara, near LKG section. As a result of the tree falling on them, many vehicles belonging to the parents parked nearby were damaged. No deaths were reported.

Relief camps opened

On the other hand, heavy rains continue throughout the district, worsening the conditions. Two relief camps have been opened in Chalakudy, currently housing 29 people from seven families.

Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Thrissur for the next three hours (on Tuesday), warning of isolated heavy rainfall accompanied by thundershowers and strong winds of up to 40 km per hour.

Authorities called on citizens to be careful as adverse weather conditions continued.
