Constable suspended for assaulting youngsters in Vriddhachalam

A police constable attached to Vriddhchalam police station has been suspended from duty after preliminary investigation confirmed that he had assaulted three youths and stolen their mobile phones.
Ranjith, a constable, was assigned to security duty during a strike at Kottakuppam in Villupuram district on Saturday, June 6, police said. However, Ranjith failed to take office and was seen riding a two-wheeler with history writer Subash (aka Subash Chandrabose) on Sunday.
The duo, allegedly under the influence of alcohol, caught three youths riding a tricycle on a motorcycle near Anna Nagar water reservoir in Vriddhachalam. The duo attacked the youth with a stick and snatched his mobile phone. Following a complaint, Ranjith and the chronicler were arrested.
Superintendent of Police S. Jeyakumar ordered a preliminary inquiry into the incident after Ranjith’s suspension.
