There have been numerous protests outside the Highfield House Hotel in the past year, including one following the imprisonment of Afghan national Sohail Amiri in March.

A 30-year-old man was sentenced to three years in prison for sexual offenses against three women living alone on the street. He was living in the hotel at the time.

His superior tried to kiss women on separate occasions in Southampton in 2025, pushing one into a letterbox and another into a bush.

He pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual assault, including one of attempted sexual assault, and was also convicted of illegally entering the UK in a small boat in 2023.

One of the victims was a college student who was walking home shortly after midnight on November 25. Prosecutor Gary Venturi said he had to re-enter the university year because of the anxiety the attack caused him.
