Palantir’s Karp says businesses are ‘unhappy’ with the frontier AI labs
palantir CEO Alex Karp said the AI software company’s enterprise customers were “unhappy” with the way its edge labs were run.
“It’s not just the man and woman on the street who are unhappy with border labs, it’s every organization we deal with specifically,” he told CNBC’s Sara Eisen on Wednesday.
Many customers said they believe these companies do not understand their business and only care about tokenmaxxing, or burning AI tokens to signal efficiency.
Rising AI costs are raising alarm on Wall Street and increasing efficiency concerns as businesses increasingly incorporate the ever-evolving technology into their workloads.
“This doesn’t mean that large language models aren’t very important to the world,” Karp said. “Certainly in the next seven years, where the value is is just execution.
His comments come as Anthropic and OpenAI, two of the leading major language modeling companies, are taking steps to go public. The Sam Altman-led ChatGPT maker said on Monday that it had filed confidentially for an initial public offering, a week after Anthropic.
Karp also said most of Anthropic’s public projects are “running on Palantir.”
Karp has made headlines in recent years for his outspoken political views. He told Eisen on Wednesday that he is a “card-carrying progressive” who wants poor people to have better lives.
Karp also expressed disappointment over the politicization of artificial intelligence.
“You can’t have a blue-red debate,” he said. “This is a huge revolution, and there are opportunities that only America has, and there are dangers in this revolution.”
