Britons are being reminded that they will no longer be eligible for certain benefits once they reach a certain age. Once you become eligible for the State Pension, you will cease to be entitled to some other payments.

As reported by Daily RecordLatest figures from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) reveal that the State Pension Fund currently provides vital financial support to 13.2 million people across Great Britain.

The value of this regular payment is up to £241.30 per week for the New State Pension (claimed after 6 April 2016) or £184.90 per week for the Basic State Pension (Category A or B).

The amount an individual will receive in this contribution benefit is determined by the number of National Insurance years they have accumulated before reaching retirement age, with the minimum required being 10 years to qualify for any State Pension payments. It is worth noting that the State Pension age has now begun to be gradually increased from 66 to 67.

The UK Government has also changed the way the State Pension age increase is implemented. Instead of reaching State Pension age on a fixed date, those born between 6 March 1961 and 5 April 1977 will be able to collect the State Pension after turning 67.

The regulation on the official retirement age has been included in the legislation since 2014, with further increases from 67 to 68 planned to be implemented in the mid-2040s. For those approaching official retirement age, it is crucial to understand what benefits will continue to apply, what new benefits you may be eligible for, and what you can no longer apply for.

Unless you are a male born before 6 December 1953, your State Pension age is the same as your eligibility age for Pension Credit. You can verify your State Pension age and determine whether you can start receiving Pension Credit on the ‘Check your State Pension age’ page of the GOV.UK website. Here.
