Jessie James Decker shares the only advice he actually listens to when it comes to making a marriage work.
The 38-year-old country singer shared the marriage advice she took to heart during an interview with Fox News Digital at a pre-CMA Fest party at her store Kittenish in Nashville, Tennessee.
“The best advice I’ve learned that works in real life is to keep dating,” she said. “You’ve got to keep things fun. You’ve got to keep that young love spirit, and that’s what we naturally do. You’ve got to be silly.”
She and her husband, former football player Eric Decker, first met through a mutual friend in 2011 and got engaged a year later in April 2012.

They married the following year, in June 2013, and have since welcomed four children together: Vivianne, 12, Eric “Bubby,” 10, Forrest, 8, and Denver, 2.
Even though they’ve been married for 13 years, Jessie said she was surprised when he said she was “still madly in love with him,” adding that she’d heard people say marriage was hard and “you had to work hard” to make it work, but she “hadn’t experienced that.”

“I still look at her with the same goo goo gaga eyes I’ve been looking at since the beginning,” she said. “She’s my best friend and we’re still more in love than ever before and I’m so grateful for that. Yeah, early on they tell you ‘oh, this is going to fade’ and it hasn’t faded.”
In a separate interview with Fox News Digital in February, Jessie shared that when you look for someone you can relate to “about the things that are most important to you,” you’re “setting yourself up for success” in a relationship.

Rather than pursuing perfection or performance, their shared values allow them to adapt without losing connection, Decker said.
“We see the world the same way. We love the same way, we wanted to raise our children the same way,” he said. “When life happens, you can get through anything together.”
The two recently appeared side by side on the popular reality show “Special Forces: The World’s Toughest Test.” They made it to day six of the challenge before Eric was medically withdrawn due to hip and back injuries sustained during the challenge.

Following her departure, Jessie chose to voluntarily withdraw from the competition rather than continue on her own. As their time on the show shortened, Jessie told Fox News Digital in September 2025 that doing it together helped strengthen their relationship.

“I think this experience, when all was said and done, we had one of the best dates and nights of our entire marriage,” Jessie explained. “We had a layover in London, we went to dinner and it was like we got to lie down on a bed and it felt like we were just there looking at each other and it was such a beautiful night.”
She continued, “We went through a really difficult time together, and it really brings you closer together. We were so grateful to be lying in that bed together.”
