One in eight women a victim of violence, Office for National Statistics says

According to new forecasts, one of eight women had sexual assault, domestic abuse or follow -up victims last year.
The figures were published by the National Statistics Office (Ones). Crime research for England and Wales until 2025.
The questionnaire found that 5.2 million people (10.6%) aged 16 years and older (10.6%) were likely to experience one or more of these types of crime – but contrary to 8.4%of men, they were higher than 8.4%.
For the first time about the combined prevalence of three crimes, an estimation was made and the main precaution used by Ones to monitor the government’s desire for violence against women and girls in ten years.
The Ministry of Interior will provide more details on how to use it with other statistics to monitor the progress of this year.
The individual breakdown of the prevalence of crime listed in the survey shows:
- 2.9 % (about 1.4 million people) experienced follow -up
- 7.8 % (about 3.8 million people) experienced domestic abuse
- 1.9 % (about 900,000 people) had sexual assault
- 8.6 % (about 4.2 million people) experienced some kind of harassment
He experienced one or more of these crimes by 2024 in the previous year.
However, ounce warned against making comparisons between years, as estimates are still developed and subject to change.
The separate figures in the questionnaire show that there were 9.4 million general crime incidents in the UK and Wales in March – an increase of 7% compared to the previous year.
The biggest driving force of this is the highest estimated number since the first collection of fraud in the poll in 2017, up to 4.2 million events in an increase of 31% of fraud.
