Iran Calls Trump’s Claims “Baseless”, Alleges US Attacked Vessels Killing 3 Indian Seafarers
New Delhi: Iran’s Embassy in India on Saturday rejected US President Donald Trump’s allegations about an Indian ship in the Strait of Hormuz, calling them “baseless”.
He also accused Washington of trying to divert attention from recent attacks on merchant ships carrying Indian sailors.
The Iranian Embassy said the US attacked three Indian ships in less than a week, resulting in the deaths of three Indian sailors, and described the actions as “brutal” and “deplorable”.
A post on X, the official account of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in India, said, “The US president’s accusation against Iran regarding an Indian ship in the Strait of Hormuz is completely unfounded. This is an attempt to divert public attention from the brutal reality that the US attacked 3 Indian ships in less than a week and killed 3 innocent Indian sailors. This is so pathetic!”
This came after Trump claimed that Iran was behind attacks on three ships carrying Indian sailors near the Strait of Hormuz, which resulted in the deaths of three people, even as the US Central Command confirmed that the attacks were carried out by American naval forces, calling the incident “completely unacceptable”.
His remarks came after Iran condemned US attacks on merchant ships carrying Indian sailors in the Gulf of Oman that resulted in three deaths, describing the actions as “brutal” and accusing Washington of “engaging in lawless behavior” that threatens global peace and maritime security.
In his statement regarding X, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei expressed his condolences for the deaths of Indian citizens who lost their lives in the attacks and called for international accountability.
“The brutal US attacks on Indian merchant ships, which killed at least three Indian citizens, are clear evidence of America’s ongoing policy of armed robbery and state piracy. We extend our condolences to the families and friends of the murdered Indian sailors and offer our sincere condolences to the Indian people and government,” the statement said.
He also called on the international community to take action against repeated violations of international norms.
“The international community must hold the United States accountable for its lawless behavior, which continues to endanger freedom of navigation while threatening global peace and security,” the spokesman added.
