Vijay-Sangeetha Divorce Proceedings Adjourned

The hearings of the divorce case involving Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and TVK chief C. Joseph Vijay and his wife Sangeetha Sornalingam were postponed to August 7 after neither party appeared before the court when the matter came up for hearing on June 15.

Sangeetha filed for divorce in the Chengalpattu Family Court in February 2026, citing irreconcilable differences between her and actor-turned-politician Vijay. He also sought permanent alimony as well as the right to reside in the matrimonial home in Neelankarai.

In her petition, Sangeetha stated that she and Vijay have been married for 26 years and she is dedicated to running the household and raising their two children – Jason Sanjay (25) and Dhivya Sasha (20). She argued that during their marriage, she had become accustomed to Vijay’s lifestyle and that she had no alternative place of residence suitable for the standard of living she enjoyed.

In recent weeks, there have been reports suggesting the possibility of a reconciliation between the couple. There is also speculation about whether court proceedings will be conducted virtually or through in-person hearings.
