Richa Ghosh Could Decide Indian Team’s Future : Aakash Chopra

Team India will face Netherlands for the first time in the Women’s T20Is and aims to continue their winning momentum in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026. Talking about JioStar’s ‘Game Plan’, JioStar expert Aakash Chopra talked about Richa Ghosh’s key role in India’s middle order, Shree Charani’s immense potential and his preferred XI for the fixture.
Speaking about JioStar’s ‘Game Plan’, JioStar expert Aakash Chopra shared his thoughts on the India-Netherlands match and what Headingley brings to the equation as a venue:
“The two teams have not faced each other before but they might have watched each other’s videos and done some analysis. The Leeds pitch has now become a very good batting surface. So, skipper Harmanpreet, who looked to be in good touch in the previous game, will enjoy batting in these conditions along with other players like Smriti and Richa. While India got past Pakistan, I feel Netherlands will be under a bit more pressure as they lost their first match against Bangladesh.”
On Richa Ghosh’s importance in India’s batting line-up:
“Richa Ghosh is an outstanding batsman. He uses his lower hand extremely well. He also got a slight advantage in the last game when only three fielders were allowed outside the circle in the last two overs. And Richa is one of the very few players who can easily hit sixes of around 70-75 metres. So, I feel Smriti and Shafali may be more or less involved in the Powerplay, but for India, the difference between winning and losing could be the difference between India lifting the trophy or not, Richa Ghosh.”
On Shree Charani’s immense potential:
“Shree Charani is a young player, playing in her first T20 World Cup, but her upside is tremendous. She has the ability to spin the ball and most of the time she throws the ball in the air a little slower. One of her standout qualities is that she doesn’t get scared even if a batsman bowls a four or a six on her; she continues to back up her strength. She has the potential to be one of the best left-arm spinners in the world. Sophie Ecclestone says: She has that status now but Shree Charani could get there in the future. Deepti Sharma, on the other hand, has played in The Hundred and that’s He understands the conditions well. Three wickets in an over, five wickets in total, game, set and match, it was a complete performance from him.”
About his playing XI for India against Netherlands:
“Ideally, you want to stay in the team you start with for a while. Unless of course you go to Leeds and there is grass and humidity, then you can consider Renuka Singh Thakur. Otherwise I wouldn’t make any changes or touch anyone. Yes, Bharti Fulmali came out early, so what? You have to support the players a little bit so that when you go into games against South Africa or Australia, the players you are investing in are in good form and have that confidence.”
