France to recognise Palestinian state in September

President Emmanuel Macron said France would officially recognize a Palestinian state in September.

In an article in X, Macron said the official announcement will be held at a session of the UN General Assembly in New York.

“Today, the urgent need is the end of the war in Gaza and the rescue of the civilian population. Peace is possible. Immediately, we need the release of all hostages and great humanitarian assistance to the Gaza people.”

While Palestinian officials welcomed Macron’s movement, Israeli Deputy Prime Minister Yariv Levin described it as “direct assistance to terrorism”.

In his position on Thursday, Macron wrote: “When he was faithful to his historical commitment to a fair and lasting peace in the Middle East, I decided that France would recognize the Palestinian province.

“We must also guarantee the demilitarization of Hamas and build Gaza safely and rebuild.

“Finally, we need to build the Palestinian state, ensure its viciousness, and accepting the militaryization and recognizing Israel fully, we must contribute to the security of everyone in the Middle East. There is no alternative.”

Macron also added a letter to Mahmud Abbas, the President of the Palestinian authority, confirming his decision.

According to AFP News Agency, Abbas’s Hussein Al-Sheikh, who reacted to Macron’s announcement, reflects France’s commitment to international law and the support of the Palestinian people to determine their own destiny and the support of our independent state. “

Currently, the Palestinian province is recognized by 147 of the UN’s 193 member states.

A few European Union countries, including Spain. However, Israel’s main supporter, the United States and its allies do not recognize a Palestinian state.
