Jack Draper to make injury return at Eastbourne but Emma Raducanu does not take wildcard

Britain’s Jack Draper will make his long-awaited return from injury at Eastbourne next week and will be followed by new manager Andy Murray.

The 24-year-old has not played competitively since the beginning of April and needs match practice before Wimbledon starts on June 29.

After withdrawing from Queen’s last week, Draper now feels ready to play for Eastbourne and prove his fitness before the Championship starts.

Eastbourne will be Draper’s first tournament under the guidance of Murray, who was named to the 2024 US Open semi-finalist team last month.

Speaking exclusively to BBC Sport this week, former world number one Murray said he hoped to work with Draper long-term.

Draper, while with Murray’s former coach Jamie Delgado, made the surprise announcement that the three-time Grand Slam singles champion would “support” him during the grass-court season.

Asked if the partnership was a long-term project, Murray, 39, said: “I hope so.

“I think the number one priority for Jack and his team right now is to get him back on the field, competing and getting confidence back into his body.”

Meanwhile, Emma Raducanu has opted not to play at Eastbourne, which starts on Monday.

The British women’s number one reached the Queens final last week, but the 23-year-old will continue her Wimbledon preparations on the training courts next week.

Home players Arthur Fery, Jacob Fearnley, Jack Pinnington Jones, Francesca Jones, Alicia Dudeney and Hannah Klugman were given wild cards for the ATP-WTA combined event.
