JD Vance reveals Donald Trump dress code rules and dislike of brown shoes

Vice President J.D. Vance is pulling back the curtain on President Donald Trump’s strict rules for Cabinet members, especially the traditional dress code.
talking on “Hang Out with Sean Hannity” Vance explained that Trump’s classic style of rules — including disdain for brown shoes — stems from his belief that public officials should respect the institutions they serve.
“The president has a firm sense that you have to respect the place, you have to respect the institution, you have to respect the office. And one of the ways to do that is to dress like a normal person,” Vance said in the episode airing Thursday. he said. “And I think that’s a very old-fashioned thing.”

According to Vance, the president expects his team to display professionalism at all times, which contrasts with the style of many today’s politicians. He laid out some rules by telling Hannity that Trump almost always wears a navy blue suit, black shoes and a plain tie.

“I mean, he always wears it; it’s always a navy blue suit. It’s almost always a solid tie. It’s always black shoes,” Vance said. “For example, if they wear brown shoes it will ruffle the feathers of some Cabinet members.”
Earlier this year, Trump confirmed during an interview that he sometimes buys his officials new shoes. “The Brian Kilmeade Show.”
“When they tell me they have a problem, I say, ‘Let me get you a pair of shoes,'” Trump told Kilmeade in March.
Vance noted that he has seen the president comment on the attire of other officials and even his own family members, including the “Zelensky moment.” During a meeting in the Oval Office, a reporter asked Ukrainian President Zelenskyy why he chose not to wear a suit.
At the White House meeting in August, Zelenskyy wore more formal attire than his usual military-style attire. During that exchange, a reporter told Zelenskyy he looked “amazing in that suit,” before Trump added: “I said the same thing.”

“This was not a good moment for him,” Vance said of Zelenskyy, referring to the tense meeting between the Ukrainian president and U.S. officials. “And it’s funny because things worked out. I think we managed to repair that relationship.”
He also recalled the time Trump commented on his son Don Jr.’s outfit at the 9/11 memorial during the 2024 campaign.

“They’re reading the names. But at one point the president turns and looks at Don Jr.. And Don’s collar is open. And the president says, ‘Oh, that’s a pretty wide collar, Don,'” Vance said.
“And we can say that’s definitely a dig. That’s why I always wore a navy blue suit, black shoes and a traditional collar,” he added.
