Florida Gators recruiting Knox Kiffin months after failed coaching search involving his father Lane

If you followed college football last season, you’re probably familiar with the Lane Kiffin Saga.

After several high-profile firings at LSU and Florida, former Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin was given the option of either staying with the program he helped build into a superpower or jumping ship for perceived greener pastures.

What followed was a six-week wild goose chase in which all three shows and the public at large were left in the dark about Kiffin’s next move.

The whole thing turned into a media circus and at one point every team thought they had the guy.

When Kiffin finally made up his mind and settled on Baton Rouge as his next coaching destination, fans and officials at both Ole Miss and Florida felt the sting of being rejected by Lane Train.

There’s certainly no love lost for the Tigers’ new head coach in Oxford and Gainesville, but what if I told you there’s a Kiffin on the University of Florida campus as we speak?

That’s right, folks. It looks like the Gators won’t let the sins of the father affect who they target on their quarterback board for the 2028 recruiting cycle, as Lane’s son, Knox Kiffin, was spotted dropping bombs on other recruits in his class for the Friday Night Lights showcase at Florida’s indoor practice facility.

No, this is not artificial intelligence.

A source I spoke to who was at the event Friday confirmed to me that Knox Kiffin was, in fact, in the building.

It seems like Florida fans (myself included) are pretty divided on this development.

On the one hand, Lane burned the fan base badly.

Fairly or unfairly, Kiffin was viewed as a prodigal son (with familial ties to the state and university) and was supposed to be Florida football’s next savior, a spiritual successor, in a sense, to Steve Spurrier.

When he apparently returned to LSU at the last minute and left the entire Gator Nation looking like fools, it bothered me.

Conversely, how funny would it be if Knox signed with the Gators and eventually became the quarterback to end the national football championship drought in Gainesville?

While Knox has admittedly admitted to being a Gator fan in the past, her mother, Layla, is the daughter of UF alumnus and Florida legend John Reaves.

Either way, it’s an absolute ride to see a close member of Lane’s family on the Florida campus right after burning all the bridges in Alachua County with super-agent Jimmy Sexton.

It remains to be seen whether Knox will be a Gator, but as a fan of chaos and storylines, I’ll definitely be rooting for him.

Then we’d all be salivating for a Knox-Lane showdown in The Swamp or Death Valley in three or four years.

Provided Lane stays in Baton Rouge that long, of course.
