Iowa local news anchor Dustin Nolan quits live on air at KWQC TV6

Local Iowa news anchor Dustin Nolan announced during a live broadcast Friday that he will be leaving his job at KWQC TV6.
“I’m going to try to get through this,” Nolan said. “Well, I have an announcement before we leave this morning. Today is my last day here on KWQC TV6. I chose to step away from the news industry. “Before I say goodbye, I want to say this: I hope that each of you who allow me to be a part of your mornings knows how much I care about this job.”
She began to tear up as she described how she was grateful for how viewers trusted her throughout her years at the station and how she strived to be as transparent as possible.

Nolan did not explain his reasons for leaving, but emphasized the importance of providing the public with more than “sanitized news.”
“When it comes to this job, all I ever wanted to do was report on the issues that really matter. I’ve always believed that as a local news station, we owe it to you, our viewers, to do the best we can because none of us could do this job without you,” Nolan said.

He added: “I also believe that as a local news station we need to be more than just trends or sanitized news because that makes people uncomfortable. That’s why facts matter and that’s why we do what we do here. We need to get people out of their bubbles and comfort zones and get them to think about the world we all live in.”

Nolan also thanked his co-worker and wife, Jenna Jackson, for their work together at the station.

Nolan has been with KWQC TV6, an NBC affiliate, since 2022. He and his wife previously won the 2025 Mid-America Emmy for Outstanding Morning/Daytime newscast in the mid- and small-market category.
