The New York Times faced backlash on Father’s Day after publishing a guest article about a transgender parent describing learning how to be a “trans dad.”
Article titled “My Gender Was Never Complicated to My Daughter” Published Sunday morning and presented in comic book format. Written by Zach Ellams, a biological female who identifies as male, this book focuses on Ellams’ experience raising a daughter while answering questions about gender.
Various pictures show the child asking direct questions in everyday settings.
“How long have you had breasts, daddy?” the girl asks in one panel as the two walk down the street.

In another scene at the pool, the boy asks: “If you’re a lady, how did you grow a mustache?”
In a separate panel, the girl is seen telling another child on the playground, “I want to grow a beard when I grow up.”
“You can’t grow a beard. You’re a girl,” the other boy replies.
“That’s what my father did, and it was a girl,” Ellams’ daughter says.
The article suggests that the child readily accepted Ellams’ gender identity and helped the author “embrace” himself better.
However, critics criticized The Times for choosing to publish this article on Father’s Day.

“The New York Times published cartoons about being a trans dad on Father’s Day,” podcaster and former aide to the Department of Government Efficiency Katie Miller wrote on X. “They envision corrupting our children in this way.”
Sean Davis, CEO and co-founder of The Federalist, accused the paper of using Father’s Day as a “game of dressing up for dad” to celebrate “the true embodiment of fatherhood.”
“The New York Times celebrated Father’s Day by saluting the real heroes: the left-wing gender goblins who think mentally ill women mutilate themselves, sustain hormone injections, and dress up dad, the true embodiment of fatherhood,” Davis wrote.
“On Father’s Day, the New York Times celebrates gender-mixed moms. Wake may be limping a little from injuries, but she’s not dead,” wrote Seth Dillon, CEO of The Babylon Bee.
Tim Young, media specialist for strategic communications at The Heritage Foundation, also criticized the article.

“The New York Times reminds us all on Father’s Day that they hate real dads,” Young wrote.
The Father’s Day controversy emerged on the same day that President Donald Trump separately ripped news outlet Truth Social over its coverage of Iran.
“For the Corrupt and Failed New York Times to convey stories about a very battered and battered Iran through FAKE and APPLIED “FACTS” is, in my view, ‘Treasonous.’ I will add all their false and ridiculous news to the Billion Dollar lawsuit I filed against them. They are Criminals!” Trump wrote.

The latest backlash adds to recent controversies surrounding The Times, including criticism of a column by Nicholas Kristof earlier this year that drew condemnation from critics and the Israeli Foreign Ministry.
