Former Cy Young winner Trevor Bauer heads back to Mexico as MLB continues to shut him out
Trevor Bauer is heading back to Mexico…another reminder that no matter how well he pitches, Major League Baseball is reluctant to welcome him back.
The 35-year-old right-hander, who threw a franchise-high seven innings of pitching without a hit after dominating the Atlantic League with the Long Island Ducks, is returning to Mexico and has officially re-signed with the Diablos Rojos.
Bauer returns to the club he went 10-0 during his dominant run in 2024; It’s not because he doesn’t have options, it’s because he runs out of willing suitors in the big leagues.
In seven starts for the Pack, Bauer compiled a stellar 5-1 record with a 2.36 ERA and struck out 66 strikeouts against just seven walks in 42 innings.

The 2020 National League Cy Young Award winner is not playing south of the border due to a decline in talent.
Bauer remains in professional exile following the league suspension that permanently changed the course of his career.
Commissioner Rob Manfred initially issued Bauer an unprecedented 324-game suspension; An independent arbitrator later reduced this penalty to 192 games.

As a result, Bauer lost approximately $37.5 million of his $102 million contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Dodgers eventually released him and chose to pay the remainder of the deal rather than keep him on the roster.

Despite the legal settlement, Bauer’s path back to Major League Baseball remains closed.
Major league teams continue to hand out big hits to struggling starters while insisting to their fan bases that they are doing everything possible to win.

Bauer has spent the last few years trying to re-enter the conversation. It won in Japan, dominated in Mexico, rebuilt its public image through its digital platforms, and just wrapped up a strong showing on Long Island.
