Met Office issues power cut warning for 71 UK areas on Tuesday | Weather | News

The scorching conditions could cause “heat-sensitive systems and equipment” to fail, which could lead to “power outages and interruption of other services to homes and businesses,” the forecaster said.

The amber temperature alert is in effect from Monday and lasts until the end of the day on Tuesday in many areas, before extending to other areas on Wednesday and Thursday.

In addition to the red health alert, a red extreme heat alert has also been issued by the United Kingdom Health Safety Agency (UKHSA) for certain areas.

This health warning will start at 1am on Wednesday and last until 11pm on Thursday for the West Midlands, East Midlands, South East, South West, London and the east of England.

The Met Office says: “People cope better with power outages when they are prepared in advance. This is easy to do; consider packing flashlights, batteries, mobile phone power supply and other essential items.”
