Deadly Stampede Breaks Out At Jordan World Cup Match Viewing

June 23 (Reuters) – One person died and eight others were injured as a result of a stampede in the center of Amman during a crowded crowd of fans to watch Jordan’s World Cup match against Algeria in the early hours of Tuesday, Jordan News Agency reported, citing the country’s Public Security Directorate (PSD).
According to the Jordan News Agency, the incident took place in Hashemi Square, where many fans gathered in the capital to watch Jordan’s 2-1 defeat against Algeria.
Emergency teams took nine injured people to hospital after heavy traffic congestion and crowd movements at the scene caused crushing.
According to the report based on PSD, one of the injured later died, while the others suffered light to moderate injuries.
It was stated that experts are conducting research to determine the exact cause of death. A large crowd of spectators had gathered in the capital to follow Jordan’s first World Cup match.
