Police have since shut down the major incident, but the affected road, the A484 near Kidwelly roundabout, will remain closed for collision investigators to carry out their investigations.

Police said that 6 people were hospitalized and 13 injured were evaluated at the scene and discharged. It was learned that no injuries at the crash site were life-threatening.

Hywel Dda Health Board, which covers west Wales including Carmarthenshire, said its team was responding to the major incident and warned emergency services would be busier than usual.

“Our teams are responding to a major incident resulting from a traffic accident in Kidwelly.

“Our emergency departments are busy and wait times will likely be longer as we treat people most in need first.”

Outreach arrangements were made at the John Burns Center in Kidwelly.

Zoe Hand, managing director of First Bus Franchising, which covers Wales, confirmed the incident involved the X11 service which runs between Swansea Bus Station, Llanelli Bus Station and Carmarthen Bus Station.

“Our X11 service was involved in an incident on the A484 near the junction with Old Forge Lane near Kidwelly this afternoon.

“A team from our warehouse in Ammanford immediately attended the scene to support our driver and attend to our customers.

“The safety of everyone who travels with us is always our absolute priority and we are working with police and ambulance services to care for those who need it and to understand the circumstances leading up to this incident.”

In the footage on Sky News, the bus can be seen lying on its side in the field after the incident.

Llanelli MP Dame Nia Griffith, whose family includes Kidwelly, said her thoughts were with those involved.

“My immediate thoughts are with all the people involved in the accident and the emergency services who assisted them,” he said.

“I will reiterate my formal request for the public to stay away and find alternative routes to the Parc y Bocs roundabout to Llandyfaelog Road.”

The police thanked the public for their patience while the emergency services arrived at the scene and closed the road, adding: “We thank the public for their understanding and patience while the emergency services teams worked together at the scene.

“We would also like to thank the John Burns Center at Kidwelly for their support.”
