Pune Girl Killed Fiancé as She Feared Breaking Engagement Would Bring Dishonour to Family

Mumbai:The Pune Lohagad murder case took a major turn when police alleged that Siya Goyal conspired to kill her fiancee, 24-year-old Ketan Agarwal, because she feared that calling off their engagement and eloping with her partner Chetan Chaudhary would bring shame to her family. According to police sources, this was the main motive behind the alleged murder plot.
The incident was initially believed to be a trekking accident, but was later registered as a murder case after investigators reviewed CCTV footage and gathered additional evidence. Ketan, who returned from the USA two years ago after completing his higher education, was engaged to Siya and was scheduled to get married in November this year.
Ketan died on June 18 after he allegedly fell from the Lohagad Fort near Pune. At first, Siya told her family that she slipped while walking, and the incident was considered an accident. However, Ketan’s family expressed their doubts about Ketan’s sudden death and stated that Ketan was a mountaineering enthusiast and had experience of hiking in mountains and valleys.
Police later reviewed CCTV footage from the castle’s ticket office and noticed a hooded man following the couple. Investigators found his attire suspicious given the 33°C temperature that day and eventually identified him as Chetan Chaudhary.
According to the police, CCTV footage and other evidence showed that Siya and Chetan conspired to kill Ketan. During interrogation, Chetan reportedly told investigators that he did not want to break off the engagement and run away as he was afraid of embarrassing Siya’s family. Police allege that the duo then decided to eliminate Ketan and Siya pushed him off the cliff.
According to the information provided by the police, Agarwal, Goyal and Chaudhary families are engaged in business.
Siya (20) is the daughter of Pravin Goyal, who deals in dry fruits and spices. He was pursuing his B.Com degree and was also managing a bakery in the Market Yard area. Chetan (23) ran his father’s dry fruit and grocery business in Market Yard. He is also a cricketer and aspires to play in the Ranji Trophy.
Ketan, son of Pune-based real estate developer Vishal Agarwal, returned to India two years ago after completing his higher education and started working alongside his father. His marriage to Siya was fixed and the two got engaged in February. The wedding was planned to be held in November.
Siya Goyal and Chetan Chaudhary were arrested in connection with the incident. The suspects, who were taken to court after their arrest, were ordered to remain in police custody until June 29.
