Trump exits Senate meeting: ‘I don’t like a few people’: Live updates

President Trump on Wednesday canceled plans to sign a bipartisan housing affordability bill amid pressure from Congress to pass a voter ID law. The announcement came just before a planned lunch with Republican senators at the Capitol, heightening tensions over his legislative agenda.

“Today’s Housing News Conference and Signings are canceled until we pass the desperately needed RESCUE ACT, which I consider a National Emergency. Thank you for your interest in this matter! Chairman DJT,” Wrote at Truth Social.

Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R.S.D.) has said there aren’t enough votes to pass the Protecting American Voter Eligibility (SAVE America) Act and has refused to push for changes to the filibuster rules to make it happen.

On Tuesday night, he attacked GOP senators who supported the Iran war powers resolution earlier in the day.

Trump is having a busy day overall.

Following his tour of the Capitol, he will meet with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte at the White House, is expected to meet with defense contractors, and will attend the Great American State Fair on the National Mall, where he will make remarks in honor of the 250th anniversary of the United States.
