POLL: Should Rachel Reeves get a job in a Burnham Cabinet? | Politics | News

But there are also suggestions that Ms Reeves could be given a different role in Andy Burnham’s cabinet as a consolation prize. Speaking to the BBC this morning, Ms Reeves said: “I will not pre-empt the decisions the new prime minister makes. I support Andy. I think he will be a great prime minister but those are his decisions, not mine.”
Ms Reeves added that “no one can doubt” her loyalty to Sir Keir in recent years after questions were raised about why he did not attend his resignation speech in Downing Street.
He said: “I’ve been with him for six years as shadow chancellor and then as chancellor of the exchequer.”
The chancellor added: “I know whoever becomes prime minister and chancellor in the future will inherit a stronger economy than the one I inherited two years ago.”
Speculation is high that Mr Burnham could choose Energy Secretary Ed Miliband, who is leading Labor’s net zero push, for the Treasury.
But some within the Labor Party have warned against appointing Mr Miliband.
Other potential names include former health secretary Wes Streeting, Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood and Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper.
Mr. Burnham could be ranked 10th in a few weeks because there is no one emerging as a challenger yet.
