Lehrmann’s solicitor slams police after court loss

Bruce Lehrmann, former liberal, was subjected to a legal defeat in the first of more than one court war aiming to stop the rape trial against him.

On Friday, Lehrmann’s Sydney -based lawyer Zali Burrows targeted the Queensland police after he proposed that civil servants had recorded two meetings between Lehrmann and the previous legal team.

Ms. Burrows was taking a precautionary measure to prevent Queensland police from recording future talks with any of Lehrmann’s legal representatives.

30 -year -old Lehrmann, the issue was heard at the Toowoomba Regional Court on Friday, appeared on the phone.

Judge Benedict Power rejected the application after he withdrew by Mrs. Burrows, who acknowledged that the entire case would be dependent on proved that civil servants would violate the law in Queensland.

Apart from the court, Mrs. Burrows told reporters that she would never talk to a Queensland police officer on the phone.

Ms. Burrows’ application was part of a wider proposal to seek a permanent accommodation in trials that would stop a hearing waiting for two rapes to Lehrmann.

Lehrmann, who received bail, was accused of raping a woman twice on October 10, 2021 in the morning of October 10, 2021 after I met at a strip club the night before at Toowoomba west of Brisbane.

Liberal senator Linda Reynolds’ former minister employee was accused in January 2023 and has not yet officially defense.

However, his former lawyer had previously said he had aimed to object to the accusations of a peace judgment.

On Friday, Ms. Burrows accepted judge Power’s view that civil servants might have followed appropriate procedures to keep the right notes in the first stages of an investigation.

“You need to determine what the (research detective) is doing as a matter of law that is illegal,” Judge Power said.

Ms. Burrows said that if a lawyer accidentally discloses the legally secret material disclosing the secret material, the police would be the “unfair tactical advantage”.

Judge Power said it would not be a police mistake and that any of Lehrmann’s lawyers could make a separate request if there is a secret material.

Crown Prosecutor Caroline Marco did not have to argue in court against Mrs. Burrows, except to accept the order of Judge Power’s dismissal.

Judge Power told Power that the application could only be heard after all other applications have been discussed.

Judge Power said lawyers should be in a position until 31 July to nominate a history of when the hearing could start.

Although Mrs. Burrows told Judge Power that Lehrmann’s previous lawyer would apply only for the judge case, he said that his client has no position to be heard by a jury for any trial.

The issue will return to the court for a 28 August hearing on the court of Celbi to the Queensland Police Commissioner for access to all materials in the case.
