Newborn baby girl is found dead on industrial estate rubbish tip – as police launch urgent hunt for mother

A newborn baby was found dead in a pile of rubbish at a warehouse, prompting a police investigation as detectives tried to track down the teenager’s mother.

Officers were called to a warehouse at Rowley Regis in the West Midlands on Thursday after staff at a private waste management firm made the grisly discovery just before noon.

Detectives believe the baby, believed to be a girl, was unknowingly transported to the depot in Station Road by waste workers on Wednesday.

They denied the company, which operates in the West Midlands, Staffordshire, Warwickshire and West Mercia, had any role in his death.

Police are urgently searching for the baby’s mother due to increasing concerns about her health.

“He may also need care, assistance or treatment,” a West Midlands Police spokesman said this afternoon.

‘You may be a mother, father, friend, teacher or lecturer who has noticed that someone you love has been acting differently lately.

‘We need anyone who can help us find the mother so we can offer her support from our expert staff.’

Investigations, including forensic medicine, are continuing to determine how the young girl died.
