President Donald Trump took aim at the direction of the Democratic Party on Friday, telling attendees of the Faith and Freedom Coalition conference that the recent socialist primary winners were “godless communists.”
“These are not social democrats. These are hard-core, godless communists. These are godless communists. All communists are godless. They don’t believe in God. This is the most serious threat to our country since its existence. In my opinion, 250 years ago. This is a major threat to our country,” Trump said.
Early results in New York on Tuesday signaled a shift in the Democratic Party; many socialist-backed candidates defeated incumbents. Speaking ahead of the country’s 250th birthday, Trump emphasized America’s founding principles and argued that they contrasted sharply with the growing influence of socialist movements within the Democratic Party.
“It’s our most important birthday ever, 250 years, and instead of talking about Jesus and talking about freedoms and victories of all kinds, we’re talking about yet another threat to the foundations of America,” Trump said.

He targeted New York City socialist Mayor Zohran Mamdani for a historic decision by the New York City Rent Guidelines Board.
Mamdani scored another political victory on Tuesday, when three congressional candidates she endorsed — Brad Lander, Claire Valdez and Darializa Avila Chevalier — won the Democratic primary.
“For the first time in history, the powerful Rent Stabilization Board set an example today in New York setting rents. They’ve done that for years and they’re way to the left,” Trump said.

The board voted to freeze rents, prohibiting landlords from increasing rent on new one-year or two-year leases.
“Mayor Mamdani, who came to the White House and seemed like a good guy, said in his campaign that he was going to do this,” Trump said.
He warned that the decision would lead to the decline of the city.

““What the mayor didn’t say is that these buildings will soon become ghettos and slums and everyone will continue to leave New York,” Trump added.
“As this spreads across the country, like an uncontrollable form of cancer, the country itself will be destroyed. The third world will definitely become the third world. And this has happened many times before to very large and very powerful countries. But it will not happen to the United States,” Trump added.
