Modi Vows to Boost Indian Ocean Security Ahead of Seychelles Visit

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said his two-day official visit to Seychelles will provide an opportunity to further deepen the long-standing partnership between the two countries and work together to advance the progress of their people while enhancing security and prosperity in the Indian Ocean region.

In his farewell statement ahead of the visit from June 27 to June 29, Prime Minister Modi said he was looking forward to holding talks with Seychelles President Patrick Herminie to strengthen bilateral ties.

“Building on President Herminie’s successful State visit to India in February 2026, I look forward to our discussions aimed at further strengthening our enduring friendship. Together we will work to advance the progress of our peoples and promote security and prosperity in the Indian Ocean region,” the Prime Minister said. he said.

Prime Minister Modi is visiting Seychelles at the invitation of President Herminie to attend the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the country’s National Day as the Guest of Honour.

Describing Seychelles as a valuable maritime neighbour, the Prime Minister said the island nation is a key partner in India’s MAHASAGAR Vision and shared commitment to the Global South.

He noted that the visit coincides with the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between India and Seychelles, which are rooted in mutual trust, common democratic values, respect for diversity and strong people-to-people ties.

Emphasizing the importance of the visit, Prime Minister Modi said that he will be the first Indian Prime Minister to address the Seychelles National Assembly.

He also said that he was looking forward to interacting with the Indian community in Seychelles, describing it as a “living bridge” between the two countries.

Expressing confidence in the results of the visit, Prime Minister Modi said that the visit will further strengthen bilateral ties, enhance maritime cooperation in the Indian Ocean region and advance the common vision of a safe, peaceful and prosperous Indian Ocean.

According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), a contingent of the Indian Armed Forces along with two Indian Navy ships will participate in the Seychelles National Day celebrations and highlight the close defense and maritime partnership between the two countries.

During the visit, Prime Minister Modi will hold bilateral talks with President Herminie to review the entire spectrum of India-Seychelles cooperation and exchange views on regional and international issues of mutual interest.
