Earlier Saturday, former Venezuelan Major League Baseball player Gorkys Hernandez said his wife, Deisy, died in the earthquake.
Reports in Venezuela said Deisy was at a luxury hotel with family members of other players on Hernandez’s La Guaira Delfines baseball team when the earthquakes occurred.
Hernandez wrote on Saturday: ‘Queen of my life, you are and always will be the most beautiful, lovely, precious, best woman in the world and always find a way to lift me up in my bad times.
‘You were and still are the most beautiful woman in my life. You will be with me always, every hour, every moment. Fly high, my princess, my queen. May God glorify you and guide me to continue and lift up our family.’
As of Saturday evening, the death toll reached 1,430.
