Welcome to Sunday Screencaps. Kicking things off for us today is Maja Lindelof. She is the wife of Swedish defender Victor Lindelof and has been labeled “the Premier League’s hottest WAG”.

This was not a title that was handed out to him one day. There is science behind it, or at least the use of an app that makes it more formal. Maja’s score in this application was 9.7 out of 10.

Going around with such a high score might work for some, but it doesn’t seem to have reached Lindelof’s wife. Like fans and influencers, he is embracing everything his World Cup visit to the United States brings.

A priest friend of mine had a farewell dinner at his congregation last night – he still owes the Navy three more years (he had already felt called to ministry while he was a Navy officer) and will be returning as a chaplain this summer.

As I pulled into the church parking lot in suburban San Diego, I noticed two armed security guards; One of them was a friend of mine from the Boy Scouts. The last time I saw him was about two years ago, when I pulled into the parking lot of this quaint, old-fashioned candle shop in Rancho Santa Fe, which had closed after several decades in business, and wanted to buy my wife a birthday present. It turns out the candle shop shares a road with a synagogue.

My friend was telling me last night that the private security business in places of worship has gone out of control. Of course, a few weeks ago a mosque was shot at in San Diego, and a few years ago the same thing was done at a nearby synagogue.

But how sad it is that people need armed guards while we worship.

Wondering if anyone else in SC Nation has encountered this situation at their house of worship?

I think someone should bring up how ridiculous the World Cup news was about last night’s USA game, with the emphasis on “Turkey” (Yes, my email autocorrect adds all the extra punctuation on the word). It would be one thing if we referred to Germany as “Deutchland” or Japan as “Nihon”… Fox arbitrarily changes why we call it Türkiye… IMO they sounded like clowns all night long….

All series have to end one day, but this one seems to be coming out with a whimper rather than a bang. No bugging out before a Cat 5 hurricane. No digging through 15 feet of lake effect snow. Happy Friday Sean,

I’m not a big ‘football guy’, hooligan or any sort of football fan, but I watch the international level of qualifiers leading up to the World Cup finals and then find the tournament itself generally entertaining to watch. Since football is pretty foreign to most sports fans in America, I can appreciate that many people aren’t interested in the game, but being interested in the game because of who’s there is as bad as watching the Super Bowl for the commercials, it’s a complete waste of time that misses the whole point of the event. I think we have opposing interests in World Cup matches.

When I watch a sporting event, I’m only interested in the action on the field and don’t really care who is in the stands and how they react (never forget the terrible impact a T Swift has on professional football matches to avoid repeating the same mistake). I can understand giving some generic camera shots of a fan or family member of a player doing something great (or terrible), but these camera shots of fake ‘celebrities’, who I’m guessing most didn’t have to pay anything to get in, unlike the exorbitant costs where fans get stuck in and have probably never seen any form of football until they get to the stadium, are a disgusting waste of time. The flip side is that, barring injuries, football doesn’t really stop until half-time/kick-off is called (those ridiculous ‘hydration breaks’ are not tolerated), so every second spent in the stands is missing something going on on the field.

It’s unfortunate that you didn’t actually watch the USA team as they were fun to watch. What I remember is that they played a mostly defensive game, hoping to create a few counter-attacking chances per game. But this time they have shown an attacking and aggressive style that has seen them score many more goals than in past World Cups, and the guys seem to be a great group of teammates for each other, which is always great to see. Who knows how far they’ll get, but it should be a fun ride while it lasts. Go Team USA!

As for the clockwork, again I’m no expert on football but there is a quirk of the game where unlike most sports where the clock stops for every whistle or infringement, once the clock starts it continues until the referee stops the clock for half time/end of match. The added/stopping team will have to avoid fouls, free kicks, injuries, etc. in order to continue playing approximately the correct amount of time for the game. It is an attempt to add up the time lost due to A football umpire has much more discretion and individual decision making that can affect a game than a baseball umpire or football umpire; Therefore, it is up to the referee to decide when sufficient playing time has passed.

Hi Rick, thanks for reaching out. Let me be honest, I have no interest in football. I’m not watching. I don’t think watching the Super Bowl is entirely accurate in terms of ad comparison. For that to be the case, I would probably have to watch some football and choose to focus on the action in the stands.

This is not the case. I catch all the action on social media from the stands I choose to focus on. But if you like sports, do it. This is not for me. I don’t watch the Super Bowl for the commercials. I will only step in if the USMNT continues to make a deep push. This is it, these are my conditions.

After years of trying to turn it into something, at some point you have to have some results.
