Princess of Wales: Kate Middleton scales UK peaks to raise money for cancer charity

Kate, Princess of Wales, says she climbed the three highest peaks in the UK in 24 hours to raise money for a cancer charity and “as a chance to explore life beyond diagnosis and give something back”.

Kate, 44, wife of heir to the throne Prince William, spoke about the damage the disease has done to her and her family as she recovers from chemotherapy for an undisclosed type of cancer and returns to royal duties.

In a post on her official social media channels, Kate said she completed the Three Summits Challenge in a 24-hour period by climbing Scafell Pike, Ben Nevis and Snowdon, the highest mountains in England, Scotland and Wales, this weekend.

At the end of the event, which was completed by Mountain Rescue on his own, he was welcomed by his wife and three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, as well as his parents and brother.

He said his aim was to promote the importance of holistic care and raise funds for the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity, which supports work at the hospital where he was treated for months.

“A lot of people have asked me why I’m doing this challenge, and it’s partly personal. I’m so grateful to be here, to be strong enough to walk these hills,” he said in a video statement.

“But more importantly, it’s about giving back and really appreciating the incredible work that’s being done in this country.”

Kate underwent preventative chemotherapy treatment following major abdominal surgery in early 2024, which revealed the presence of an unspecified form of cancer, and has since delivered personal messages about the impact it has had on her and her family.

“I have met some incredible people living with and with cancer, and I know personally how difficult this journey is,” she said.

“I really wanted to use this opportunity as a way of contributing to all the wonderful work that goes on. And in particular, I wanted to use it to support the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity, which is so dear to my heart but does outstanding work to support those living with and without the disease,” he said.
