PM Modi Attends Seychelles National Day Revelry as Guest of Honour

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday attended the National Day celebrations marking the 50th anniversary of the Independence of Seychelles. He was the Guest of Honor at the event and became the first Prime Minister of India to receive this title.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), an Indian marching contingent comprising Navy and Army teams participated in the parade. An Indian Navy band also joined the marching contingent, underlining the close and special partnership between India and Seychelles. In a special gesture, INS Tarkash and INS Ikshak docked at Port Victoria, symbolizing India’s long-standing friendship with the island nation. Prime Minister Modi also conveyed India’s warm wishes to the people of Seychelles on this historic occasion.
Prime Minister Modi held official talks with Seychelles President Patrick Herminie during his state visit. The leaders reviewed the full spectrum of bilateral relations and agreed to further strengthen cooperation in key sectors such as health, education, capacity building, digital transformation, sustainable development, social infrastructure, renewable energy, maritime security and defence.
The two leaders also exchanged views on regional and global developments, including challenges such as illegal fishing, drug trafficking and piracy in the Indian Ocean region. They expressed their satisfaction with the progress of the projects implemented under India’s Special Economic Package. Prime Minister Modi reiterated India’s commitment to support Seychelles’ development priorities and further deepen the long-standing partnership between the two countries.
