Elderly pedestrian killed in horrific hit and run

An elderly woman has died after being hit by a car in South Brisbane.

A pedestrian was struck by a blue Toyota HiLux on Beenleigh Street in Runcorn at around 7.30pm on Sunday.

The 72-year-old woman, from Kingston, suffered serious injuries and was taken to Princess Alexandra Hospital, where she later died.

The unidentified driver was driving east on Beenleigh Street when he hit the woman and drove away.

The vehicle involved was later found burnt out in a nearby suburb on Avalon Rd in Sheldon.

The driver could not be found next to the car.

Police are appealing for anyone with information that could identify the driver (including CCTV, dashcam or other footage from the area at the time of the crash) to come forward to assist the investigation.
