US supreme court rejects Trump’s bid to appeal $5m E Jean Carroll verdict | US supreme court

The US supreme court on Monday refused to hear Donald Trump’s bid to overturn a $5 million verdict in favor of E Jean Carroll in a case in which a jury found him liable for sexually harassing the former magazine columnist and then slandering her.

The justices turned away the president’s appeal after a lower court upheld the 2023 jury verdict and rejected Trump’s arguments that the trial was unfair because the judge allowed jurors to hear evidence of past allegations of sexual harassment without permission.

Trump has been battling Carroll, a former advice columnist for Elle magazine, since she published an excerpt from her memoirs in 2019 in which she alleged Trump raped her in the dressing room of the Bergdorf Goodman store in Manhattan around 1996. ‌Trump denied Carroll’s allegations and maintained that he lied about the accusations both while he was serving his first term as president in 2019 and while he was out of office in 2022.
