Mercedes Moné wins Owen Hart Tournament for second year at Forbidden Door

Mercedes Moné returned to All Elite Wrestling (AEW) to take on the challenge of winning the Owen Hart Foundation Women’s Tournament for the second time and earn a title shot at All In.

On Sunday night at the Forbidden Gate, Moné proved once again why he is one of the best professional wrestlers in the world. It defeated upstart contestant Maya World in the finals.

The world gained momentum going into the match following the devastating loss of his brother. She defeated Skye Blue and Athena to advance to the match against Moné. But her Cinderella run came to an abrupt end at the hands of Moné.

There were fans behind Moné, who mocked World at the beginning of the match. However, the duo put on a great performance in front of the crowd in San Jose, California.

At the end of the match, fans were divided on who to support in the match. Moné was trying not to be caught off guard by some of Earth’s maneuvers. At one point, World hit Moné with a sunset flip powerbomb to the floor and a springboard moonsault.

Yet the “CEO” did not stand still.

Moné avoids a pin attempt. Moné cross-faced a backstabber. It led to the debut of World.

This marked the first time an AEW wrestler won the Owen Cup twice. He did this in back-to-back years. Last year, she lost the AEW World Women’s Championship to Toni Storm.
